CHATTER 5

Here's a question that interests me.
So what are Melbournes most over and under rated restaurants?
I'll stick my neck out and suggest

Over rated

Bistro Guillame
Gingerboy
The Grand
Rockpool
Libertine
Pearl
Grossi Florentino
I find it hard to rate Pizza's but they never compare to 'real' restaurant fare!!

and under rated

Melba Restaurant (at The Langham)
The Brasserie by Philippe Mouchel
Orita
Walters Wine bar
C'est Bon
to name a few

We'll have to agree to disagree to some extent on this one. Pearl, in my opinion, is an absolute stunner and definitely one of our best - the duck curry is legendary. Rockpool is also pumping out sublime fresh seafood and steaks and Grossi Florentino is a Melbourne Institution - excellent Italian cooking (albeit way too expensive) and one of the most special fine dining rooms in Melbourne.

The others I can probably agree with you on. Especially The Brasserie - definitely under rated.

Interesting how opinions can differ.

Hi Jon
I've eaten a few times at Pearl. There crab night was the real disappointment. The red curry duck is a very special meal but the rest is so ordinary.
Grossi Florentino is good just not as good as it's cracked up to be. The 'Italian' cooking is very much contemporary with French influence now. At Rockpool the waitress removed the overdone waghu almost before it hit the table and the dessert was frankly gross. Perhaps I should have had seafood but it is touted as a steak house
